We do not recommend that you change the default location of your Profile folder for Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac, or your Identity folder for Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 to an external hard disk or to a network. Additionally, using a mail identity or profile that is located on an external hard disk or on a network is not supported in either version of Outlook for Mac.

  1. Is there a way via GPO to disable the option of the 'Work Offline' mode in Outlook 2016? Although I don't get many tickets to come through about this, it is frustrating for me and the user. As we're a school, not everyone is by a phone, so can't walk them through it, and they don't go to other computers often enough to pick up their emails when.
  2. Disabling Outlook Work Offline Setting Now, click on the Send/Receive tab from the menu of MS Outlook window. After this, you can disable the Work Offline setting in Outlook. If MS Outlook is now disconnected from the server, users can see the “Work Offline” with red “X” mark shown on it along the left section of the toolbar.

Outlook 2016 for Mac caches your mail items in a profile in your home folder at the following location:

Setting Up Email. If there is a Welcome to Outlook screen, skip through it until you reach the 'Please enter your email address' screen.Enter your NAU User ID and select Continue. Note: Your email address should be in the form of first.last@nau.edu.; Wait for Outlook to find your account. On the Outlook menu, make sure that Work Offline is not checked.
